In Montreal, we have a pretty great bike system. Bike paths run from one side of the city to the other, and everywhere in between. As soon as the snow melts, I de-rust my hibernating bike and don't put it away again until November. I wouldn't choose any other mode of transportation. There's only one thing: cars and pedestrians tend not to know where the hell to drive or walk, and have a particular knack for getting in my way.
The other day I was cycling through Westmount when I approached Green St. I went to slowly bike through it and noticed two women walking across the street in front of me. There was a huge gap between them so I biked through, but the woman who I biked in front of (may I just say that I didn't cut her off, I simply - and safely - biked past her in an effort to cross the street and avoid traffic), turns to me as I pass her and mutters, "Cunt!"
Are you serious? I'm more pissed she chose to use my least-favorite word in the whole world to insult me. From one woman to another, why use such a degrading and misogynistic term? I couldn't hold back so turned and did the childish thing of yelling "Bitch!" back to her. But come on! Have some respect for your fellow cyclists! It totally ruined my day.
